How to Lay Drip Tape for Water Conservation in Irrigation Systems

What is a drip tape?

A drip tape is a core product of the drip trickle irrigation system that plays a decisive role in the operation effect of the drip trickle irrigation system. It is hailed as an efficient water-saving equipment in arid and water-deficient areas, which can effectively improve the utilization rate of water and fertilizer, and achieve rationalized planting for water and energy conservation.

The drip tape uses a plastic tapeline to slowly irrigate crops with water (liquid fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) through a capillary tube with a diameter of about 16mm, which flows from a very small outlet of a dripper or drip tape. There are two main types of drip tapes: single-sided wing labyrinth type and inner-laminated patch type.

Uses and advantages of the drip tape

  • It is used for planting crops in greenhouses and sheds, reducing pests and diseases, saving fertilizers and pesticides, and improving economic benefits.

  • It is used for orchard irrigation, which can effectively increase yield, improve fruit quality, and effectively control weed growth.

  • It is suitable for various field crops such as cotton, Chinese medicinal materials, watermelon, and field vegetables, which can improve mechanized planting.

Laying of the drip tape

  • After the drip tape is laid, 1-2 meters of reserved space should be left at both ends connected to the branch tape. This reserved length is to prevent the drip tape from being too tight after connection and to prevent cutting errors from resulting in insufficient length during connection.

  • When cutting the drip tape, apply uniform force and try to make the cut end flat and vertical. By adopting this approach, the drip tape adapter can easily and consistently clamp the cut ends, allowing for firm connections with the branch tape and connecting fittings. After the drip tape is filled with water, it can obtain uniform force under water pressure impact, ensuring a stable connection.

  • The connection between the drip tape and the branch tape cannot be bent and must be straight through. If the length is too long, it can be cut appropriately. If the drip tape is bent, clogging and bursting may occur after water flows through.

  • When punching holes in the branch tape, the hole position should be aligned with the laying position of the drip tape. If a three-way connection is used, the hole should face up and the three-way joint should be inserted into the hole.

Consulting a reliable drip tape manufacturer is crucial when deciding on an optimal drip tape for your precise needs. Taking into account the varying terrain, landform, and crop spacing, selecting the most suitable drip tape with the correct irrigation method guarantees optimal results. The correct selection and use of drip tapes are vital as they are an essential component of an effective and efficient irrigation system. Hence, be sure to seek expert advice on how best to maximize returns on irrigation investments.

In addition, the filter is very important, and installation and removal are also very convenient. Only with it can the water quality be kept clean and the tapeline blocked. At the same time, to extend the life of the tapeline, experts also suggest that everyone should pay attention to maintenance during use.
