The Classification of Drip Irrigation Systems

The Classification of Drip Irrigation Systems

According to different types of crops and planting, the drip feed watering system can be divided into two types of the fixed one and the semi-fixed one.

1. The fixed drip irrigation system means that all pipe networks will not move after installation, and it is applicable to fruit trees, grapes, melons, fruits, vegetables and other crops.

2. The semi-fixed drip irrigation system has fixed main and branch pipes, and only the capillary pipes in the field are mobile. One capillary pipe can control several rows of crops. During watering, after one row is finished and then it will be moved to another row for irrigation, and a number of rows can be irrigated in each move, in which way the utilization rate of capillary pipe can be improved so as to reduce the equipment investment. This type of drip irrigation system is suitable for crops such as wide-row vegetables and fruits.

The drip feed watering system can be divided into the following three types according to the different layout mode of the capillary pipes in the field, whether they move or not, and the way of irrigation:

1. Ground-fixed type

The system in which the capillary pipe is placed on the ground and the emitter does not move during the irrigation process is called the ground-fixed system, and now a majority of people will choose this one. It is now applied in the orchards, greenhouses, sheds and a few field crops for irrigation, the emitter of which includes a variety of dripper and drip irrigation pipe and belt. This system has the advantages of being easy to install and maintain, as well as easy to check soil moisture conditions and measure flow changes in the dripper.

2. Underground-fixed type

The system in which the capillary pipe and the emitter (mainly the dripper) are all buried underground is called the underground-fixed system, which emerged after the continuous improvement of the drip irrigation technology in recent years and the reduction of emitter blockage. However, it is not widely used. Compared with the ground-fixed system, it has the advantages of removing the process of the installation and disassembly of the capillary pipes before and after the crop planting and harvest. Therefore, it does not affect the field cultivation and extends the service life of the equipment.

3. The mobile type

During watering, the system in which the capillary pipe and emitter move from one location to another for irrigation after the completion of irrigation is called the mobile drip irrigation system, which is also rarely used. Compared with the fixed systems, it improves the utilization rate of equipment, and reduces the investment cost. It is often used for field crops and crops with less irrigation times, but its operation and management is more troublesome and the cost of management and operation is also higher, so that it is suitable for the areas with drought, water shortage and poor economic conditions.
